Dare to be inspired!

It is true when they say that inspiration comes in many forms, for many inspiration comes from life experiences, from songs, from movies, from books, pictures, etc. As to me, inspiration came to me in the form of a painting we (My boyfriend and I) have in our living room.
This painting was actually given to me by my uncle, he knew I was looking for a cool painting to hang in my former room at my parents house and the moment I saw it I fell in love with it. It's a 3 piece painting, he made the board/base and another aunt painted the zebra. I think they both did an AMAZING job!
Anyways... I gave my nails a rest for a couple of days, I was going to go a week nail polish free but I couldn't do it! I mean every time I looked at my nails they just looked so naked and boring! So this painting gave me an idea.

First I painted my nails black by using a black KleanColor nailpolish....
I then used a white nail polish from Eve's , to create patterns on my nails. That's one of the nail polishes I bought for less than $1! (to read my shopping experience click here) And....
Ta-da! This is the end result :) I did different patterns on my nails because each nail represents a "zebra" and each zebra is unique and has different patterns.

So what do you guys think? Where does your inspiration to do your nails comes from?
 Comments are always welcome!

Carnival Adventures!

The Crabtree Amusement Carnival was in town for the past two weeks and we barely had the time to go on its last day in town. And I must say I had a lot of fun! I live in Las Cruces, New Mexico which is a small-ish city so sometimes there isn't much to do other than go to the mall, movies, or go out to eat and have a drink.
So my boyfriend and I were ecstatic to do something different :)
(As if you can't tell from the picture!)

While we were waiting in line for the ferris wheel he kept on looking at the other rides, I'm sure he was thinking "I rather be riding other rides than this"  haha He doesn't like carnival rides and only got on them because of me. Isn't he the best?

I think the ferris wheel is sooo romantic tho! I mean  you get to just sit, and relax while enjoying the beautiful view! What else could you want?

The sun was setting when we got to the top and I
thought the sky looked beautiful, it was different shades of blue, orange and pink, and the mountains looked blue. Of course this picture doesn't compare to the real thing but I thought I would still share it anyways :)

And then we go from romantic to scary! This ride was just crazy! It went from side to side until it gained enough speed to do a 360 and then it would slow down at the top and leave you hanging upside down for a couple of seconds! Nevertheless to say I screamed my lungs out and gained a couple of bruises on my shoulders from the shoulder pads on the  ride :( So I will be staying away from anything sleeveless until they go away, despite this 100+ degree weather. Which sucks but I had a wonderful night with my boyfriend and to me that is all that matters ♥

Blog make-over

I was recently approached by Chelsea who offered to give my blog a make-over, since I am still new to blogging my blog's design was very simple, so of course I said yes ( I mean who wouldn't?) So now thanks to Chelsea it looks AMAZING! She did a fantastic job! Keep on reading and find out how your blog could be the next one to get a make over!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
                           Meet my blog designer!
Hi Girl Booklet readers! My name is Chelsea and I am a 20-something blogge and aspiring web/graphic designer from Vancouver, Canada, but currently on an adventure living in New Zealand with my cute Kiwi boyfriend. My favorite things are design, friends/family, kitties {crazy cat lady} and fashion/style.

I say aspiring designer because I've only just started offering blog designs {I just did Jessica's! don't you love it?!} to people other than myself, haha. If you are looking for an affordable, quality blog design then feel free to email me atyours.truly.chellie@gmail.com, I would LOVE to work with you!

At the moment I am LOVING the Hunger Games books, I am super sad that I've just finished reading them and that the excitement is over. I am also loving the pastel colored denim trend, because last time it was in style it was moreso bright colors than pastels, and I just honestly think pastels are far more flattering! I actually just picked up a pair of dark coral colored ones on sale and I love them.

I was inspired to start blogging by other bloggers, actually! I followed quite a few awesome ladies {that I am now blog-friends with, yay} before I started blogging and was like wait, why can't I do this? And three months in, I am so glad I decided to take the plunge! On my blog you can find posts about anything and everything. I often post about what I wore and what I'm dreaming about wearing/buying, haha. I also like to post about whatever had been on my mind that day, whether that be design, autism, life plans, some random thing I did or whatever! Anything goes on my blog.

Check out my blog, Yours Truly, and definitely leave me a comment, follow, send me an email..I would love to get to know you! I am also hosting an awesome giveaway at the moment that you still have time to enter. It's my first ever giveaway, to win a full blog design OR 2 months ad space OR some custom-made buttons for your blog! You can also check me out on Instagram, Tweet me, like my page on Facebook or even friend me on Facebook!

Healthy happy Life

I believe that it is never too late to make positive changes in your life, and today I decided to do just that. I decided to live a healthier lifestyle, and it seems like I couldn't have picked out a better day!

I'm so glad I actually woke up early today because the weather was  gorgeous! It was sunny with a few clouds, so I decided to go out to the park that's near my apartment for a walk/jog.

On one side there is a jungle gym and on the other there is this big field, it's usually empty in the mornings except for a few people walking their dogs or exercising, and in the afternoons  there are kids playing different sports like soccer, football or croquet (yeah you read right!)

I've always love running and for some reason I cannot stand running inside a gym on a treadmill, I feel trapped. So I'm more of an outdoor kind of girl, and this park is perfect for me! It's big, it's green and it has some pretty cool artwork :)
I think these two pictures came out awesome! I  love birds ( in fact I have a tattoo of a sparrow on my hip) so I thought I would take a picture of them. When I spotted them they were gathered on the ground but by the time I got closer they started to fly away, I still got a really good picture tho!
In order to keep up my new lifestyle I'm going to have to maintain a healthy weight by engaging in physical activity (either go for a run, the gym, or do zumba on the kinnect) and by eating a healthy diet! I would encourage everyone to do the same, not only will it benefit you in the short run but also in the long run! Think about it :)

My Nail polish and a store called Eve's.....

I have always loved painting my nails! It's just one of those things I love doing during my down time, it helps me relax and keeps my mind distracted from all the things I have to do.

I usually try to match my nails according to how I feel that day (To learn what each color represents just click here!)

I love this color! It's so bright and the glitter makes it stand out even more!

I've had this nail polish for a while now. You can find this brand in different stores, I bought it at Walmart!

For a little something something I added a coat of this sparkling nail polish that I bought from Claire's (duh as if you can't see their name on the bottle)

And to make it a little bit different I decided to leave my middle finger without sparkle, thought it looked cool (:

When I did my nails I noticed that some of my nail polishes were old and I had to throw away :( So after work yesterday I walked around the mall in search of some new nail polish. I hit up Eve's store.

They sell nail polish, make up, earrings, bracelets, rings, and so much more for only $1!!! That's right folks only $1! I've bought different things from this store and I love them all! They have things that are IN right now so it's awesome! Check out their website and look at their products, they are super cute! Don't forget to check out their promotions tab. This store is great for college students who can't afford to buy high end products or want to buy more for less!

I bought 7 nail polishes for only $5! (they were on sale!!) So you can say I am a happy camper. I cannot wait to see what kind of designs I will do with these bad boys! I've been looking at different pictures and I already have a couple of ideas. Comments are always welcome! You can also LIKE me on Facebook  and FOLLOW me on Twitter, and share your thoughts there!

Fast fashion

Last semester in my business communication class my teacher assigned us to pair up with a fellow classmate and write a business report on any topic we wanted. I got paired up with this girl Carmen and I was lucky enough that she was into fashion as much as I am. I was also lucky that at the time she was taking a “clothing and textiles” class because that's where we got our topic from. In that class Carmen learned about this term “fast fashion” that is used by fashion retailers. I learned a lot from it and I hope it does the same for you!

There is a lot of information about this topic online, but this is just a shorter version of what it is:

Fast fashion is a contemporary term used by fashion retailers to acknowledge that designs move from catwalk to store in the fastest time to capture current trends in the market. Fast fashion has also become associated with disposable fashion because it has delivered designer product to a mass market at relatively low prices. These trends are designed and manufactured quickly and cheaply to allow the mainstream consumer to take advantage of current at a lower price.
When a retailer uses this method they have no more than two weeks to design clothes similar to the ones on the catwalk, mass produced them and get them in stores. The downside is that since retailers have so little time to mass produced clothes they use cheap products to make clothes. Which look great on you but do not last very long since they are not great quality, this not only makes you buy clothes more often but it also affects the environment.
Fast fashion leaves a pollution footprint, with each step of the clothing life cycle generating potential environmental and occupational hazards. For example:
  • Polyester, the most commonly used manufactured fiber, is made from petroleum in an energy-intensive process that emits volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and acid gases into the air. The process also uses a large amount of water for cooling.
  • The manufacturing of emits nitrous oxide a greenhouse gas with a carbon footprint 310 times that of carbon dioxide.
  • Rayon, derived from wood pulp, often relies on clearing old growth forests to make way for water-hungry eucalyptus trees, from which the fiber is derived.
  •  Cotton, found in most clothing, is the most pesticide-dependent crop in the world. It takes one-third of a pound of pesticides to make one t-shirt.
To address the environmental impacts of fast fashion at its source, and to find a niche in this increasingly competitive market, some manufacturers are aiming to develop “eco-fashions.”
  • One approach has been to use sustainably grown cotton, hemp, bamboo, and other fiber crops that require less pesticides, irrigation, and other inputs.
  • Another approach is the use of polymers created from plant-based materials.
So hopefully after reading this you will be well informed and will be able to make better decisions, not only ones that will benefit you and your pocket but also for the environment. Make sure to check out this eco-friendly website! ecofashionworld they are worth checking out and they have AMAZING products!
